Manuscript Submission Guidelines
Fireweed Canada Publications is an Indigenous owned and operated publishing house, with an aim to support First Nation, Metis, and Inuit authors and illustrators and publish authentic and relevant books. Please read the following guidelines in order to ensure that they fit our mandate before submitting.
We are accepting submissions of the genres listed above. Before submitting consider the following:

Submissions sent my e-mail will not be opened and faxes will not be accepted. Please include a cover letter that includes your full name and contact information including e-mail address. Because of our mandate to promote FNMI authors and illustrators please include that information in your cover letter. Also, for Allies that would like to submit, please include the contributions of FNMI people to your manuscript, relevant research or artistic process that supported your writing or artistry. Please do not send originals when submitting. We will take great care with the materials that are sent into us but cannot guarantee delivery.
Please include a brief synopsis of the project, the intended target audience and for novel-length manuscripts please include the word count. For most manuscipts, we do not wish to see the entire manuscript. For novels, please send three chapters and outline where they fit within the narrative. If submitting short-stories or anthologies, please send in no more than three stories or chapters. The exception to this rule are children’s stories, which can be submitted in there entirety. Please submit a Word document that is 8.5″x11″, double spaced, single sided and done in 12 pt. Times New Roman font. An electronic copy may be requested and must be available.
For materials that are submitted, please provide up to 4 examples of your work. These can be color copies and should be 8.5″x11″ in size. Electronic copies of additional work may be requested and available. For each piece submitted please include medium, title and year produced.
In an effort to stay within the companies Green Policy, all materials will be confidentially shredded, recycled and the submitting party will be notified by e-mail. In order to protect the creative works of the individuals submitting manuscripts and works of art, we will ensure that this process is done professionally. If you would like any works returned to you please provide a return, self-addressed and stamped envelope in your original package. In an effort to protect cultural knowledge and abide by the protocols of FNMI people, we will verify ownership of stories. This is particularily important in the case of the re-telling of traditional oral stories. Please be mindful of the stories that you are sending and that you have the rights to share them. Please indicate, when possible, the affiliated nation, tribe and language that the story originates from. If you have any additional questions, please use the form below.
